U8s earned a well-deserved
win after outplaying
their
opponents throughout the match.

kicked-off and were immediately on the attack and quickly earned
2 corners. Newtown were finding it difficult to clear their lines,
but when Welland were on the attack, they made it difficult by defending
solidly and in numbers. Despite this Welland created some good shooting
opportunities. Jonathan Loveday, Huw Neyroud and Will Watling all
went close before Freddie Lloyd was unlucky to see his shot hit
the post. Some good goalkeeping by the Newtown goalie also made
sure that Welland didn't take the lead before half-time whilst at
the other end, David Humphries and Callum Hall defended well when
necessary to ensure that the half-time score remained 0-0. At half-time
Matthew Bannister and Callum Hall swapped positions and Matthew
was soon in the thick of the outfield action after the restart.
Will Watling made an excellent left wing run and then provided a
good cross which Welland were unfortunate not to be able to score
from. Oliver Lewis tried a shot after making himself some good space,
but he was also unlucky to be slightly off target. Welland eventually
took the lead when Will Watling picked up on a loose ball in the
area and fired into the net. Even after the goal, Welland kept up
the pressure and deservedly extended their lead when Will Watling
crossed from the right and Freddie Lloyd finished very well in the
box. Welland were unlucky not to get a third goal when Will Watling's
shot was pushed onto the bar and then gathered by the Newtown goalkeeper.
On the whole, this was a first class performance by Welland and
all the players should be pleased with and proud of their performances.
